The zero-clearance Flex Island fireplace insert is designed as a room divider, with four open sides enabling the hypnotic flame to be viewed from the front, back, left and right sides. The UL Listed Flex Island models come with a base component that holds the burner and a top component that lines the bulkhead above.
With an EcoSmart Flex 104IL.BX1, you have design freedom with the choice of a Decorative Box on the left or right-hand side. Both designs are fitted with a glass panel that divides the box and the Firebox and creates an attractive streamlined look. Instantly transform any wall into a feature, indoors or out, with a stylish, clean-lined Flex Firebox.
One of the longest flames available in the Flex Series is created by using 2 of our ever-popular XL900 burners. With an overall heating capacity of 120m2 this appliance is best suited to large open spaces - think hotel lobby, large open plan restaurants.
Each burner holds 9L of fuel, and can deliver a stunning flame for up to 13 hours.

Yes, you can have fuel delivered to public and private premises in many countries.
Can EcoSmart Fires be installed everywhere?
Almost everywhere! EcoSmart Fires cannot be installed into small rooms that are less than our minimum room size which is burner specific. For all other installations, you must comply with our compulsory clearances and installation instructions. Approval from building authorities may be required prior to installation in your area. Please make sure you contact appropriate parties before installing your EcoSmart Fire.
How safe are bioethanol fireplaces?
EcoSmart Fire’s operating tools, procedures, and proprietary technologies were developed with safety as our top priority. Made from 304-grade stainless steel, EcoSmart Fire’s ethanol fireplace burners go through a deep-draw fabrication process that eliminates the potential for dangerous leaks. Additionally, our patented filling point is separated from the ignition zone and engineered so that the jerry can spout is fully supported prior to releasing the fuel supply. This eliminates the usual splash and spills that would otherwise occur when fuel is decanted into the burner while simultaneously reinforcing the maximum fill line within the burner. EcoSmart Fire’s ethanol fireplaces release heat, carbon dioxide (the same stuff we exhale) and steam. Allowing you to enjoy a clean-burning flame without the soot, smoke, ash or other harmful substances emitted by traditional wood burning fireplaces. When selecting an installation location for your ethanol fireplace it is important to consider the required minimum room sizes and clearances. What are the benefits of a zero clearance ethanol fireplace insert?
EcoSmart Fire’s Flex Fireplace Series has the necessary clearances to combustible frame components already built-in meaning they can be framed with wood studs. This gives you the freedom to install your ethanol fireplace insert in small and unique spaces. When selecting a location for the fireplace it is important to consider the required minimum room sizes and clearances. Please reference our Flex Series installation manual.
Can I extinguish my ethanol fireplace before the fuel has burnt?
Yes, you can turn your EcoSmart Fire ethanol burner off at any given time, even if there is ethanol still left in the burner. It is recommended however, that you leave it to burn until it completely runs out. The shut off mechanism is there for security and safety for those times when you need to leave the house, as it is not safe to leave a fire unattended. You need to wait until your appliance cools to room temperature (60 minutes) before re-igniting, this is because hot vapours are a hazard and may cause a strong, initial ignition if the ethanol has not cooled long enough. This is also to ensure that the flame has been totally extinguished and that the appliance is safe to refuel if the amount of fuel in the burner at that time is insufficient for your next ignition / use.
How large of an area will my ethanol fireplace heat?
The heat output of our indoor and outdoor ethanol fireplaces vary based on the model selected. When used indoors, EcoSmart Fire’s ethanol fireplaces comfortably heat between 215 sq feet and 700 sq feet.
Is their heat output similar to a gas heater?
Burning bioethanol is similar to gas, but the room doesn't dry out like it does with gas - a more gentle, softer heat is created. Heat-wise, it depends on the models being compared. Some of our bioethanol burners output 15,000 BTU and can heat up to 60sqm of living space. Bioethanol is not, however, on an adjustable thermostat. Some may be turned up and down, but you can't control the room temperature in the same way as you do with gas on mains
How much does it cost to maintain an ethanol fireplace?
EcoSmart Fire’s ethanol fireplaces require little maintenance. It is important to keep the lid closed when not in use to keep debris out of the ethanol burner that can cause corrosion and damages. The 304 stainless steel tank is built to last a lifetime if proper cleaning procedures are done when needed.
