The Tamborine Boutique Hotel

A Boutique Hospitality Setting

Set within the lush surrounds of Tamborine Mountain, The Tamborine is a boutique accommodation experience defined by calm, comfort, and connection to place. An outdoor fire feature was introduced to enhance shared guest spaces, bringing warmth and atmosphere to the property’s cool-climate setting while complementing its considered, design-led aesthetic.

Project Background

Located in the Gold Coast hinterland, The Tamborine has been thoughtfully designed as a retreat from the pace of everyday life. Emphasising outdoor living, natural materials, and communal spaces, the property encourages guests to slow down and engage with their surroundings.

Outdoor areas form an integral part of the guest experience, designed as places to gather, relax, and spend time together. These spaces required elements that could enhance atmosphere and comfort while remaining visually restrained and in keeping with the property’s boutique aesthetic.

The Brief

The outdoor setting called for a fire solution that would:

  • Enhance the ambience of shared guest spaces
  • Align with the property’s refined, boutique aesthetic
  • Support a sense of comfort and connection within outdoor areas
  • Operate safely and efficiently in a hospitality context
  • Avoid permanent infrastructure or complex installation
  • Reflect the venue’s commitment to considered, sustainable design

The selected solution needed to balance atmosphere with responsibility, contributing to the guest experience while aligning with the property’s broader sustainability values.

The Solution

The Mix 850 fire pit in Bone was selected to meet the brief. Its freestanding design allows the fire feature to be incorporated seamlessly into outdoor hospitality settings without the need for structural modifications.

Powered by clean-burning e-NRG bioethanol, the Mix 850 delivers real flame ambience without smoke, ash, or flue requirements. This makes it well-suited to hospitality environments, where ease of operation, cleanliness, and minimal ongoing maintenance are essential.

The sculptural form and neutral finish complement the surrounding landscape and architecture, allowing the fire to enhance the space without dominating it.

Designed Integration & Atmosphere

Positioned as a natural gathering point, the fire pit transforms the outdoor area into a welcoming space as day transitions into evening. The visible flame introduces warmth and movement, creating a subtle contrast against the cool mountain air and reinforcing the sense of retreat.

Rather than functioning as a standalone feature, the fire integrates into the broader outdoor experience, encouraging guests to linger, connect, and enjoy the space in an unforced, relaxed way.

Sustainability Considerations

Sustainability is an important consideration at The Tamborine, reflected in the property’s broader approach to responsible hospitality. From energy-conscious operations to a focus on longevity and thoughtful design, the venue prioritises solutions that support a lower-impact guest experience.

The use of a bioethanol fire pit aligns with this ethos. Bioethanol is a renewable fuel that burns cleanly, producing no smoke, soot, or ash, and eliminating the need for flues or permanent structural works. This reduces both material impact and ongoing maintenance requirements, while still delivering the sensory warmth and ambience of a real flame.

By selecting a freestanding fire solution that operates efficiently and cleanly, the outdoor space is enhanced without compromising the property’s commitment to considered, sustainable design.

Outcome

The addition of the fire feature elevates the outdoor area into a functional and atmospheric extension of the accommodation experience. It supports the property’s boutique positioning while remaining understated and timeless, contributing to guest comfort throughout the year.

The installation demonstrates how thoughtfully selected fire solutions can enhance hospitality environments while aligning with sustainability values and design intent.
